American vs European Roulette
For decades many gamblers from all over the world have been playing various table games, and one of the beloved ones was roulette. So, since then it was created a lot of variations of Roulette, in order to provide players with a variety of choices. Thus, today we would like to tell you about the two most popular types of roulette, namely American Roulette and European Roulette, so you can decide which one you like most.
What is the difference between the American Roulette and European Roulette?
As with any other roulette, both of the games have the same aim, to predict what number of the wheel the ball will stop on, however, the rules and features of these roulettes differ. All you have to do beforehand is to place a bet on the number or numbers you think the ball will stop on and wait till it stops. Both of them have odd and even numbers, groups of numbers, and red and black pockets, where the ball should land.
Some of the main differences between these two roulettes are:
American roulette’s wheel has 38 numbers, due to the presence of double zero. Another difference is that American roulette has the house edge of 5.26%, and it is twice as much as a house edge of European roulette. The last main difference of American roulette is a five number bet. Everything is really simple, there are five numbers you place your bet on, namely 1, 2, 3, 0, 00. This rule does not apply to European Roulette, due to the absence of 00. It is important to note, that the odds of winning are a little reduced at American roulette, due to the presence of double zero.
Whereas European roulette’s wheel has 37 numbers, and these numbers range from 0 to 36, this roulette does not have double zero. As we mentioned before, in comparison to American roulette, European roulette, has a lower house edge, namely 2.70%. Another key difference of European roulette is the term “call bets” – so instead of placing chips, players say their bet out loud, and a dealer places chips. The last difference is the presence of two rules, which pertain to the scenario where the ball stops at zero – these are La Partage and En Prison rules. Note, that these two rules do not exist in all online casinos, it is the decision of the casino where you play. La Partage rule – players lose only half of their bet, En Prison rule – a player gets to keep the entire bet for the next spin.
Which roulette is better to choose?
So, which one is better? In comparison to American roulette, European roulette has a higher RTP of approximately 97.3%, whereas American roulette has 94.7%. There is not a big difference in payouts in these two roulettes, however, we would recommend you play a European one, as in general, you’ll have better chances of winning.
In roulette, the chances of winning when betting on high/low, red/black, even/odd are roughly 47.37%!
